POW
produced a huge super show called No Turning Back live from the Exeter
Corn Exchange formally known as ST Georges Hall on the 29th June.
Joel Redman & Mark Haskins were originally set on the card
however were unable to make the show due to technical problems. However this was
not enough to stop the show being perhaps the best performance show yet from
POW. The crowd were extremely hot throughout the show and with two championship
matches and Exeter's own Chris & Sam Andrews on the card. It was a night to remember.
Matches:
POW Tag Team Championships
OOB (C) VS Dexstar & Ultimo Scorpio
Exeter
Corn Exchange was treated with a tag team championship match to kick off the
show. The new champions Out On Bail (Scott Johns & Johnny Sicko) would take on
the team of Dexstar & Ultimo Scorpio who were technically former tag team
champions. The last show Dexstar & his former un-wanting partner Sir Charles
Watkins tried everything to make the team lose simply because he did not like
Dexstar. Watkins attacked Scorpio in a shower and stole his wrestling gear and
pretended to be the real Ultimo Scorpio. The plan was set and it turned out to
be a three on one handicap match allowing OOB to become new tag team champions.
Dexstar
was able to get the real Ultimo Scorpio to challenge the new champs at Exeter
and the fans certainly took to both sides. The crowd was hot and chanted for OOB
& The masked wrestlers. Early into the match Sicko & Johns worked on Dexstar
isolating the small wrestler away from his larger tag team partner. OOB function
well as a tag team and hit several new tag team moves which caught the crowds
attention. As always Dexstar and his big heart would start to build enough
momentum to change the match around and towards the end of the match Scorpio got
the tag and took immediate control hitting consecutive moves on both members of
OOB. Unfortunly Scorpio made the mistake of tagging Dexstar in as OOB took out
Scorpio and hit a huge double team finishing move that allowed them to retain
the tag team titles.
Winners - OOB (Scott Johns & Johnny Sicko)
2nd Number One Contenders For The Cybernet Championship
GazzNorks VS VV Rayas
The
almighty GazzNorks returned at the last event Immortal to take on the POW
Champion Robbie Devonshire but was unsuccessful to win the title. The fact
remained that GazzNorks was back and looked better than ever after suffering a
career threatening injury to his jaw. He was then given an opportunity to
challenge for the Cybernet championship on Cybernet Episode 17. VV Rayas has
also been chasing the title hunt for
nearly
a month and was involved in the first championship match for the Cybernet title.
Rayas is still only a 5 month rookie but has shown that he has a huge future in
the business. He was unable to defeat David Fury from the last show but gets a
second chance for the number one contender ship against the current Cybernet
Champion Lee O' Brian.
Both
men had something to prove and something to gain, so it was to no surprise that
the match was a possible show stealer. GazzNorks started the match dominant
using his experience against the rookie. Rayas started to get frustrated and
believed that he was almost being shown up in front of the noisy Exeter crowd.
As the fans started to get behind GazzNorks, Rayas out of no where slapped
GazzNorks in the face which was not like him. GazzNorks did not take likely to
this and started to hit hard and fast taking Rayas to school.
GazzNorks hit several high impact moves along with his technical
background putting VV Rayas to the test and to the limit. VV however showed
GazzNorks that he was no push over when he started a small offensive set of
moves that quickly changed the direction of the match. Towards the end of the
match, GazzNorks delivered his strongest arsenal of moves and finally hit the
G-Force (F5) to VV Rayas and won the match. VV Rayas stormed off after the match
with the crowd not behind him.
Winner - GazzNorks
Return Match
Darren Saviour VS David Fury
We
were in for a huge shock as the Canadian wrestler Darren Saviour returned to POW
at the Exeter Corn Exchange. Saviour's last match was at POW Retribution and
then moved to London to wrestler for another company. The number one contender
for the Cybernet Championship David Fury was no stranger to fighting Darren
Saviour and saw this match as a great opportunity to show Lee O' Brian what he
would do to him when they meet on Cybernet Episode 17.
Saviour
knew he was in for a battle and took a beating from Fury. Saviour had not
competed in POW for quite sometime so he felt that he was getting back into the
different aggressive wrestling style that POW gives. Fury hit several punishing
slams to Saviour who was getting hit pretty bad. Saviour also found mix
reactions from the crowd which was something he wasn't used to and the
frustration settled in when the crowd started to slowly turn against him.
Although some fans stuck behind the Canadian wrestler, Saviour couldn't help but
feel that he was losing the momentum that he fed off from the fans.
Saviour
had one chance to get the match back into his caught and connected a suicide
dive to the outside hitting Fury. In doing so Saviour injured his back severally
and paid the ultimate price of limping and not being able to hit those vital
moves that he needed. Fury like a shark smelt the blood and took advantage of
this by slamming Saviour on his injured back repeatedly. Fury would connect a
spinning side walk slam to get the three count and the excited crowd cheered for
the evil Fury. David Fury had no interest in the fans and continued to shout out
them with abusive words and walked out of the arena knowing that he would be
involved in a championship match next week.
Winner - David Fury
Tag Team Match
The Andrews Brothers VD Chris Marvel & Lee O' Brian
The
second half of the show saw Exeter's Chris Andrews & Sam Andrews
coming into there home town of Exeter and greeted well by the Exeter Corn
Exchange crowd. The new tag team of Chris Marvel & Lee O'
Brian were out to have some fun however maybe made a mistake when they jokingly
said that they were from Plymouth. The Exeter crowd didn't take that very well
and expressed there opinions to the two youngsters. Naturally The Andrews
brothers fed off that and got the Exeter crowd chanting there city name to help
the Andrews build momentum.
Sam
Andrews the quicker and more agile of the brothers was able to keep up with the
quickness of Lee O Brian & Chris Marvel and it wasn't long before Sam made the
tag to his stronger brother Chris Andrews who decimated the two fast high flying
wrestlers using mind blowing power moves that gasped the crowd. Marvel & Brian
were no push over and amazed some of the wrestlers in the back when they fought
back against the Andrews and gained control using quick tags. The Andrews were
veterans in tag matches and knew what they were doing and simply did the same
isolated Lee O Brian and then working on Chris Marvel.
The match was also taken to the outside as the tag team match
exploded and got more intense as both teams gave over 100% and had the crowd
roaring with some of the moves executed. At the end of the match The Andrews
brothers were able to hit there own finishing moves obtaining a double win and
defeating Chris Marvel & Lee O Brian along with bringing a home town victory.
Winners - Chris Andrews & Sam Andrews
POW Championship
Robbie Devonshire (C) VS King Walshington I
It
was time for the main event of the evening with the POW Championship on the
line. The current
champion
Robbie Devonshire has had all eyes on him and defended the belt three times
along with winning the title. Devonshire is the top fan favourite and the top
wrestler in POW, however he would face a new challenge ahead of him. The King Of
The Ring Winner King Walshington I (formally known as Dan "The PrettyBoy" Walsh)
was once a former tag team champion and known as one half of the greatest tag
team Pretty Marvelous. Pretty Marvelous dominated the tag division everywhere
they went however they would soon break up when things didn't go well for them.
King Walshington would win the KOTR at the last event and become the number one
contender for the POW Championship and get his shot at the Exeter Corn Exchange.
At the end of Immortal after Robbie Devonshire was victorious
with his win against GazzNorks and successfully retaining the POW Championship.
His celebration was cut short when King Walshington picked up the POW
Championship and hit Devonshire in the head with it causing him to temporary
knocked out. The metal of the belt was enough to keep Robbie dazed on the floor
when the King ranted at Devonshire stating that he would win the title at No
Turning Back.
Exeter
was greeted with royalty when the King emerged from the curtains and got a
standing elevation which was not expected by many. The crowd seemed to have
mixed reactions throughout the show but no matter how much some of the crowd
chanted for the King, he would wave them away and dismiss them stating that they
were rowdy peasants that were not worth his time. The disrespectful and
obnoxious King Walshington the I would then here the music of Robbie Devonshire
as the crowd roared with excitement and cheered when Robbie Devonshire emerged
from the curtains.
The match would not start traditionally as the King went to lock
up and instead was attacked with punches from Devonshire who was still unhappy
with what the King did to him last week. Robbie exploded with punches, forearm
shots and huge clotheslines which took the King off guard and had to roll out of
the ring to try and get some breath back. The King had little than a second to
breathe as Robbie still on fire came out and continued the punishing blows
outside in front of the crowd. The King cut off Robbie and went back outside to
get the breather that he so desperately needed.
The
King would then work offensive delivering echoing shots that the crowd were
horrified to watch. The King had really stepped up with Robbie always on the
floor crawling to the King. Robbie would look to get back into the match on
several occasions however the King was always one step ahead and would take back
control each time referring back to his smash mouth wrestling style. The match
would take a turn when Robbie started to hit some high impact moves, but towards
the end of the match Robbie accidentally hit the referee when The King dragged
the referee next to him. With the referee knocked out VV Rayas entered the ring
and hit a neckbreaker. With the crowd shocked at the actions of VV Rayas, The
referee started to slowly gain conciseness and when the King went for the pin,
Robbie kicked out. The King had one more move left and used the KOR (Suplex to
Powerbomb) that he used to win the King Of The Ring and used the move to win the
POW Championship becoming the second ever POW Champion.
Winner - King Walshington I
Number One Contender For The POW Championship
Battle Royal
After the King won the POW Championship, he would go to the stage and
announce on the microphone that he was feeling "generous" to Robbie and offered
him a chance to fight for his rematch when he must compete in a battle royal and
win the match to earn the number one contender for the POW title. Robbie who had
just lost the match was greeted by the first entry straight away with the hard
hitting machine David Fury. This was set up however everyone had an opportunity
at the chance. Robbie somehow outlasted the battle royal and it came down to
himself and none other than VV Rayas. The King who watched from the stage
couldn't believe that his plan wasn't working and ran into the ring and was
caught and instantly thrown over the top rope by Robbie. Moments later VV Rayas
charged at Robbie and the same thing happened with VV Rayas eliminated and
Robbie Devonshire getting his rematch at the Brixham Hap'nin charity event.
